About Blaktop, Inc.

Bill Taylor and Tom Close formed BlaktopFounded in 1950 , Blaktop, Inc is a family-owned business supplying asphalt paving services to the Connecticut River Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont.

Bill Taylor and Tom Close formed Blaktop as a compliment to its sister company, Twin State Sand & Gravel. At the time, they had the only hot mix asphalt production facility in the region.

They built the company around four basic principles that the second generation of family owners still follow today:

  • Integrity in all our dealings
  • Quality in all our products
  • Dependability in all our commitments
  • Safety in all our activities

Standing by these principles has fostered a loyalty of both customers and employees. The average length of stay for year round employees is 16 years, and customers can trust the experience and wealth of knowledge that our people bring to their job.

From our modest beginnings, Blaktop and Twin State Sand & Gravel now play an important role in the region’s economy. We employ approximately 65 people during the construction season and utilize a fleet of over 75 vehicles and pieces of equipment.

We still operate our own hot mix production facility, which gives us the ability to deliver the finest quality custom-blended hot mix to our residential, commercial, and municipal customers. Additional facilities include 2 asphalt plants in West Lebanon and aggregate processing facilities in West Lebanon and at the Twin State quarry site in Hartland, Vermont.

The combination of our commitment to our principles and our resources in asphalt production, state-of-the-art equipment, and our dedicated staff insures that our customers will receive the best quality and support in all of their paving projects.

“I am glad to testify that Blaktop has an excellent product and is competitively priced. Tim Cramer is my contact at Blaktop, and he is a true professional. I highly recommend them, now in my roll as a consultant civil engineer and when I was the NHDOT Highway Maintenance Assistant District Engineer.” Dick Morneau, PE Associated Consulting Civil Engineers, Littleton, NH
